About that holiday coming up this weekend...

As I see blog posts and Instagrams about "the perfect gift for dad," or "what he really wants on Father's Day," or "my dad is so great because...", I am reminded that my most dreaded day of the year is quickly approaching; that day that I try so hard to ignore.

As many of you may know, my "dad" is not in my life nor has he been for over a decade; instead, I have an amazing mother who did/does a pretty dang good job of filling both parental roles.

Father's Day may bring joy to a lot of people and make them reminisce about good times with their dads; but for me, it usually just brings up painful memories about what could have been but never was.

This year feels different, though...

Underneath all the anxiety and dread that Father's Day brings me, I feel a glimmer of hope--hope for what will be. Hope for Jacob to become the amazing father that I have no doubt he will be. Hope for the plans that God has in store for us. Hope for the future. (and no, I'm not pregnant)

If you will be celebrating with your dad this weekend, I hope you realize just how blessed you are to have someone who earned the right to be called "dad." If you are in the same boat as me (whether it be because your father has passed or because of other reasons), I hope you are able to see past the pain that this weekend brings and find hope.

  1. My dad doesn't live any where near me so I don't get to celebrate with mine either so I usually just treat it like any other day. Although I did get the hubby a present from our furbaby this year haha! I think as long as you have a great support system that's all that matters and you can celebrate them every day!

  2. Oh girl, I feel for you. This is exactly how Mothers Day is for me - a day full of dread. I just try and stay off social media and do something fun with my own little family. Hope the day isn't too bad for you!! :)

  3. This is so brave of you to share with us! That must be very hard...but every family is different. Honestly, I am not that close with my Dad. He got remarried when I was really young and we never really had the chance to have that daddy/daughter relationship. But I'm really close to my Father in law. Hopefully you have that too :)

  4. Oh sweet girl, I'm so sorry for that pain you've experienced (and will always experience!) but I'm so glad you feel the hope of your future! Father's Day will have a whole new meaning once you have a baby of your own and have can celebrate that amazing man of yours... because you both will make the most amazing parents!
