I'm NOT a First-Time Mom

This has really been weighing on my heart throughout this pregnancy, so I decided to write about it for the Oklahoma City Moms Blog.

Go check it out if you feel so inclined!

  1. Aww! Alana! I knew you had been a foster Mom because you had mentioned it here and there, but that really like painted the picture. YOU ARE AN ANGEL! You most definitely earned your Mom stripes a long time ago. I'm sure it's different, in the same way that it would be different to have a biological child and a step child, but it doesn't change the fact that you care for them and love them the same way. I would be offended too. I'm sure there are a lot of first time Moms who know nothing about babies or Mothering, but people should not be so quick to judge. Not everyone is "clueless" for lack of a better word. I was friends with a girl I went to high school with, who when she turned 18 she got custody of her 3 young nieces/nephews and I am sure she would LOVE this article. I think she probably felt the same way when she had her first baby (recently). You're going to be such a great Mom, because you already have been ;) xxx

  2. Oh I love your post! I wanted to come back over and respond here so that I would know you would get it directly.

I feel that foster parents just aren't thanked enough. Any type of parent is just as important as any other parent (step, parent, foster, adoptive etc). But I think people never give credit to them because of the fact that they just "foster" but that's not the case. Fostering is a wonderful relationship between child and parent. I think it also helps form that child. I was not in foster care but I have a friend who was and she always thanks her foster parents.

And give me tips on potty training! You're a pro! So you may have easier tips than what we've done. haha

  4. Alana you are AMAZING!! Seriously so selfless of a thing to do for another human being. I always hear stories of scary foster home experiences but I wish I heard more good ones!! I can only imagine your home was one children were happy to be in, one where they did feel loved and cared about. I am actually jealous that you have had these amazing experiences as it sounds like you are already all set for motherhood!! You are totally not a first time mom by any means. I never even though of it in that way and it's sad people even question it! Being a nanny (not close to as amazing as a foster parent) I totally feel like these are my own kiddos. I've been with them for 3 years and I love them so much they will never know!! You're Amazing, A!! xo
